An Indiana man is accused of burglary after police found him with a slingshot, marbles and a medical mask near the site of an attempted burglary early Tuesday morning.
According to an Iowa City police report, officers were responding to a security alarm triggered by broken glass at Pharmacy Matters, 230 Scott Ct., when they saw Curtis W. Lewis walking away from the building and crossing the street.
Lewis told police he was in the area shooting deer with marbles for the night, and would be going back to Indiana with his friend, the complaint said. Lewis was wearing plastic gloves and had a medical mask around his neck when talking to police. Police also said he was carrying marbles, a slingshot, a roll of garbage bags, a portable radio, a screwdriver and a crowbar.
Police said a marble was lodged in the broken window at Pharmacy Matters, but Lewis said he did not believe the marble was his, adding he didn't hear anything when he was in the area.
Lewis is accused of third-degree attempted burglary and possession of burglars tools. Both are aggravated misdemeanors punishable by up to two years in jail and a maximum fine of $6,250.
