Downtown Iowa City bar BoJames will serve a 30-day liquor license suspension beginning Sept. 3 after selling alcohol to minors twice within a two-year period.
The bar, located at 118 E. Washington St., will serve the suspension at one of the busiest times of the year in downtown Iowa City – the University of Iowa football season. The suspension runs from 6 a.m. Sept. 3 until 6 a.m. on Oct. 3.
The bar must also pay a $1,500 fine, according to a ruling today from Iowa Alcoholic Beverages Division Administrator Stephen Larson.
The suspension came after two people under the legal age working with Iowa City Police were able to enter the bar, a 21 only establishment, on Jan. 30, 2009 without being asked for ID. They were then served beer by a bartender without their ID being checked.
