Iowa City apartment fire causes $55,000 in damage

IOWA CITY - Reports indicate that the Iowa City Fire Department responded to a call of smoke showing from a second floor bedroom of 1037 Cross Park Avenue, Apt. B at approximately 4:41 p.m. on Sunday evening.
Three engines, a ladder truck, battalion chief and 15 on-duty fire fighters responded to the call and had the fire under control within 20 minutes. The fire was completely extinguished within 30 minutes and crews were on scene for just under 1.5 hours, according to a press release from the city of Iowa City.
All occupants of the apartment were evacuated from the building prior to arrival of the fire department and there were no reported injuries. The fire, which remains under investigation, caused an estimated $55,000 in damage to the structure and its contents.
