Investigators: Smoke alarm woke man in burning home
May. 29, 2011 4:46 pm
CEDAR RAPIDS – Investigators say a working smoke alarm may have saved the life of a Cedar Rapids man late Saturday night.
A fire broke out at 266 Lynda Drive NW around 10 p.m Saturday. That is just northwest of Wiley Boulevard and Johnson Avenue.
Fire investigators say the smoke alarm woke up the only person in the home at the time, allowing him and a dog to get out safely.
As late as Sunday afternoon, the evidence of the fire was very apparent, with smoke damage visible from the street.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
