IOWA CITY - A disgruntled 28-year-old Johnson County inmate assaulted a deputy after his visitation period was ended early on Friday, authorities said.
According to a criminal complaint, Charon M. Williams, argued with the deputy and refused to listen to commands after returning from his visitation period at 1:43 p.m. When he refused to enter a holding cell, the deputy grabbed Williams' arm, but he jerked away and pushed the man into a wall and a scuffle ensued.
The deputy then reported Williams punched him in the face causing him to lose his glasses. He said Williams caused multiple scratches to his face, neck and arms.
Williams is charged with assault against a peace officer causing injury and interfering with official acts, both aggravated misdemeanors.
His bond has been set at $23,150 cash bond, authorities said.
