A union trying to halt mandatory flu vaccinations ordered by University of Iowa Health Care filed an injunction today in Johnson County District Court.
President Cathy Glasson, of Service Employees International Union Local 199, noted that educational efforts can achieve 90 percent in voluntary vaccination rates.
The union represents about 2,800 health-care workers at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
UI Health Care, which includes the hospital, Carver College of Medicine and UI physicians, is requiring seasonal flu shots for all faculty, staff, volunteers and even vendors and contractors.
Employees who don't get the seasonal flu shots or obtain a medical or religious exemption could lose their jobs.
