A 71-year-old man and his 13-year-old grandson walked away without major injuries from an Interstate 80 rollover accident that occurred at mile marker 237 near Tiffin at 10 a.m. today.
According to on-scene Iowa State Patrol officials, it appeared that the truck rolled over one or two times before it came to rest right-side up in the eastbound ditch.
The truck was pulling two ATVs on a small trailer, which detached during the accident.
According to the 71-year-old man, the rollover occurred after he tried to avoid an accident with another vehicle that had cut sharply into the passing lane. Neither he nor his grandson remembered what happened after that moment.
The 13-year-old showed no injuries, while his grandfather had one small cut on his forehead and slight facial bruising. They both refused medical treatment saying they were just "shaken up" by the accident.
The pair, who declined to give their names, are from Lafayette, Ind. The grandfather was unsure about plans following the crash, but was seeking help from on-scene deputies to make arrangements to find a way home.
