An Iowa City man is accused of fifth-degree criminal mischief, intoxication and interference with official acts after police say he kicked in the door panel of their squad car while under the influence of alcohol on August 24.
Complaints from the Iowa City police department said officers were dispatched to 1857 Lower Muscatine Rd. just after 11 p.m. for reports of a man with "obvious problems." Upon arrival, police said witnesses pointed them toward 31-year-old Dustin Williams, of Iowa City, who had very wide eyes and appeared to be very stimulated.
The reports said police asked Williams what he had ingested, and whether he needed medical help.
Police said Williams was "freaking out," because someone said they would kill him if he didn't smile. Complaints also said he was kicking the squad car and door panel, even after he was placed in leg restraints. The report said the door panel of the squad car was pushed in, and estimated damage of about $200.
Fifth-degree criminal mischief and interference with official acts are simple misdemeanors punishable by up to 30 days in jail and a maximum fine of $625.
