Hy-Vee to build fourth convenience store in Cedar Rapids
CEDAR RAPIDS - Hy-Vee Inc. will tear down a former dentist's office at 4015 Mount Vernon Rd. SE next to one of its grocery stores to build a convenience store with fuel pumps.
The City Planning Commission has approved the grocery-store chain's development plan for a convenience store on the 12.03-acre site.
The site is already owned by Hy-Vee and correctly zoned for commercial development.
Tara Deering-Hansen, Hy-Vee group vice president, communications, said construction on the new convenience store is expected to start in the spring, with the store expected to open in the fall of 2016.
Hy-Vee has seven grocery stores in Cedar Rapids, three of which already have convenience stores nearby. Its Marion grocery store also has a convenience store.
Signs provide information about Fuel Call at the Edgewood Road NE Hy-Vee gas station. Hy-Vee said Monday it plans to build another Hy-Vee gas station and convenience store on Mount Vernon Road SE, near the Hy-Vee grocery store.
