Jul. 7, 2011 12:10 pm
The girlfriend of the man who escaped from Hope House last week has been arrested for helping him escape police custody. According to a criminal complaint, Stephanie Dunbar, 23, picked Alajuawan Johnson, 27, up after he ran from police on July 2. Johnson had escaped from the Hope House in Coralville just one day prior.
Dunbar is being held at the Johnson County Jail for aiding and abetting, a serious misdemeanor.
Johnson currently remains on escape status after he left the work release facility to seek a job and never returned. On Wednesday, Iowa City police announced that they're offering a $1,000 reward for information on Johnson's whereabouts.
Johnson was serving a five year sentence for involuntary manslaughter in the death of Kylie Jo Perkins. Police said Perkins and Johnson got into an argument over a gun Johnson possessed illegally when he accidentally shot her in the chest in late 2009.
Johnson is 5 feet, 11 inches tall and weighs 156 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes, and has tattoos on his arms.
Anyone with information about him is urged to contact Iowa City CrimeStoppers at (319) 358-TIPS (8477).
