Hiring event planned for Crowne Plaza workers facing layoff

A Jan. 26 will give employers a chance to meet with 125 employees of the Crowne Plaza Five Seasons in Cedar Rapids facing layoff because of the hotel's impending closure.

The recruitment event organized by IowaWORKS will be held from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 26, at the Crowne Plaza Five Seasons.

The job titles of employees participating include accounting clerks, caterers, sales people, front desk clerks, servers, cooks, laundry workers, housekeepers and maintenance staff.

There will be no charge to participating employers.

The City of Cedar Rapids is acquiring the hotel from a creditor that foreclosed. It plans to close the hotel for about six months for renovations as part of its convention complex project.
