Hiawatha native to be awarded Medal of Honor in November

The White House announced on Monday President Barack Obama will award Staff Sergeant Salvatore Giunta, U.S. Army, the Medal of Honor for conspicuous gallantry on November 16.
Staff Sergeant Giunta will receive the Medal of Honor for his courageous actions during combat operations against an armed enemy in the Korengal Valley, Afghanistan in October, 2007. Staff Sergeant Giunta's wife, Jennifer, and his parents, Steven and Rosemary Giunta will join the President at the White House to commemorate his example of selfless service.
Staff Sergeant Giunta is a Hiawatha native and has completed two combat tours to Afghanistan totaling 27 months of deployment.
