A Hiawatha man is accused of punching his wife in the face multiple times while he was wearing brass knuckles and dragging their 11-year-old child through the snow, according to court documents.
Joseph M. Vislisel, 25, of 129 Mango Dr., is charged with willful injury causing serious injury, child endangerment and interference with official acts after the incident Sunday at his residence.
Police Chief Dennis Marks said a neighbor in the Bali Hai Estates mobile home park called 911 shortly before 2 a.m. Officers arrived to find the couple inside their home, with Michelle Frantz-Vislisel, 28, suffering from facial injuries. Marks said she was taken to St. Luke's Hospital, where she was treated and released.
Joseph Vislisel was combative and uncooperative as he was arrested, prompting the interference charge. Marks said he was at the home in violation of an order for protection issued in December after an earlier domestic incident.
Joseph Vislisel was taken to the Linn County Jail, where he remained Monday afternoon in lieu of a $15,500 bond.
A preliminary hearing in the case is scheduled for March 4. Vislisel faces up to 12 years in prison if he is convicted of the charges.
