The Iowa State Patrol has released the name of a pilot killed when his helicopter crashed into an eastern Iowa cornfield.
The patrol identified him as 54-year-old Hubert Dane Harris Jr., of Little Rock, Ark.
Harris was the only person aboard the aircraft when it crashed about 11:30 a.m. Monday, just north of Wilton, near Iowa Highway 38.
The 1960s-era Sikorsky UH-34 helicopter had been refitted as a crop duster. Federal Aviation Administration records say the helicopter is registered to US Helicopter LLC in Spokane, Wash.
The patrol says the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board have joined the crash investigation.
The Iowa State Patrol said the pilot of a helicopter that crashed near Wilton around noon on Monday had just filled the vintage 1960s Sikorsky and was flying normally prior to the crash.(Erica Pennington/The Gazette)
