Head-on crash near Waukon kills one

An 85-year-old woman died after a head-on collision Monday morning.
The Allamakee County Sheriff's Office said the crash happened just after 10 a.m. just south of Waukon on Highway 9.
Officials say a sport-utility vehicle driven by a 39-year-old female was northbound on Highway 9, crossed the center line, and struck a southbound car.
Both drivers were transported to Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. The 85-year-old driver of the car was pronounced dead from injuries suffered in the crash.
Names of those involved are being withheld until family members are notified.
