THE GAZETTE.COM PICK ‘EMS
Week 8
Indiana at Iowa
Marc Morehouse - Losing school has to claim Jim Belushi as an alumnus. Hey, life's not fair, but that's how this is going to go down. Iowa 38, Indiana 24
Mike Hlas - In the words of Indiana native David Letterman, I wouldn't give the Hoosiers' troubles to a monkey sitting on a rock. Iowa 42, Indiana 21
Nick Pugliese - You're supposed to schedule a patsy for Homecoming. Mission accomplished. Iowa 45, Indiana 14
John Campbell - If the Big Ten was still the Big 11, Indiana would not show up in the total defense charts and would barely show up in the total offense category. Iowa 50, Indiana 10
Beth Malicki - What are you doing next Saturday? I'm chowing down and getting down to celebrate a huge Hawkeye fan: Eric Blesie. He's kind of a big deal. Find out more at BlesieCare.com. Iowa 31, Indiana 13
Bob Brooks - If Iowa doesn't win this game it doesn't have the right to make a run in November. Hoosiers said they were scared at Wisconsin. Wait until they see Kinnick today. Iowa 41, Indiana 10
J.R. Ogden – Nothing is easy in the Big Ten, or with Iowa football 2011. But this is as close as it gets. Iowa 45, Indiana 17
Jeff Johnson – In a bad Big Ten, Indiana is the baddest. Er, make that worst. Iowa 42, Indiana 28
Rob Gray – Coach Kevin Wilson's not easing up on the floundering Hoosiers - and neither is the opposition. Expect big numbers from Marcus Coker, the Hawks. Iowa 41, Indiana 10
Jeff Linder – Slick card trick, Kinnick folks. Iowa 42, Indiana 17.
James Steward – Nothing like playing the Hoosiers to fix your defense. Or offense. Iowa 31, Indiana 10
Scott Saville – The Hoosiers have played the Hawks tough in the recent past. Iowa 31, Indiana 21
John Sears – Indiana has the worst defense in the Big Ten, giving up 436 yards a game. This should not be close. Back to back games vs. the Hoosiers and Gophers? That's a favorable schedule. Iowa 45, Indiana 13
Ryan Beck (from The Gazette's Facebook page) - Iowa gets upset because of a weak defense and a few turnovers. Indiana 16, Iowa 14
Texas A&M Iowa State
Morehouse - Has it hit everyone yet that this is the last Big 12 game between these two schools? Me neither. Texas A&M 48, ISU 14
Hlas - Iowa State beat Iowa, which beat Louisiana Monroe, which beat Grambling State, which beat Concordia College of Selma, which has beaten no one. Not every story has a happy ending. Texas A&M 42, ISU 28
Pugliese - Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Texas A&M 35, ISU 21
Campbell - I sipped the Steele Jantz Kool-Aid one too many times, plus ISU defense needs to do a 180 for ‘Clones to have a chance. Texas A&M 45, ISU 31
Malicki - I've had a change of heart, a 180 you might say, or maybe an epiphany. My kids love math, robotics and physics. I love in-state tuition. Although A&M will win this game, I don't see Iowa State as a loser at all. Texas A&M 38, ISU 20
Brooks - Cyclones celebrate homecoming. The alums should have a good time because this is a tough game for ISU. Texas A&M 27, ISU 14
Ogden – Coach Rhoads believes in his team. I believe in Rhoads, but this is too daunting today. Texas A&M 24, ISU 14
Johnson – Ah, you still have that win over Iowa. That's all you ever need, right, Cyclone fans? Texas A&M 41, ISU 21
Gray – Aggies are an eyelash from being 6-0 and BCS darlings. They boast top-10 talent and top-flight speed. Still, the Cyclones hang in. Texas A M 34, ISU 26
Linder – Question now is, how did they win three games? Texas A&M 45, ISU 24
Steward – Can ISU pull out of their downward spiral? Not against the Aggies. Texas A&M 35, ISU 17
Saville – The A&M offense is scary good. Texas A&M 45, ISU 21
Sears – Cyclones have lost three in a row by a combined 81 points. Tough schedule or not ISU is getting blown out. They have a chance for a HUGE win on national TV. Unfortunately the Aggies are better. Texas A&M 41, ISU 24
Beck - Iowa State leads early in the game, but ends up falling to a Texas A&M rally. Texas A&M 23, ISU 19
Wisconsin at Michigan
Morehouse - Wisconsin Wife doesn't know who @BeingBielema is on Twitter, but she wants to hire him as a “pool boy.” We don't have a pool. Wisconsin 24, Michigan State 17
Hlas - I'm a lifelong member of the 99 percent. But I put 2 percent milk on my cereal yesterday, so now I'm part of the 101 percent. And we're really fed up. Wisconsin 27, MSU 19
Pugliese - If anyone is going to beat the Badgers, this is the week. Not. Wisconsin 27, MSU 20
Campbell - I knew Malicki was many things at Missouri, but an adjunct? Really! Wisconsin 24, MSU 21
Malicki - The FCC, Bible, contract with KCRG-TV9 and my really Catholic grandma insist I share this disclaimer in the spirit of: I don't know a cotton-pickin' thing about football. My husband chooses the winners and scores; I supply the rambling wit. Wisconsin 27, MSU 20
Brooks - Spartans with a win against Michigan were penalized more than 100 yards. With that sort of discipline, pick Wisconsin. Wisconsin 24, MSU 21
Ogden – Badgers looking more and more legit each week. Wisconsin 28, MSU 21
Johnson –Wisky goes 13-0, doesn't play in the national title game. Wisconsin 31, MSU 10
Gray – I doubted the Spartans last week, foolishly. This week they make their bid for best of the Big Ten status, shocking the Badgers. MSU 28, Wisconsin 24
Linder – If I win this pool and get money, I'm buying a door for the sports department. Wisconsin 37, MSU 24
Steward – Revenge factor for Wisconsin, plus Russell Wilson makes this a dangerous night to be a Spartan. Wisconsin 34, MSU 24
Saville –MSU will slow down the high powered Badger offense. Wisconsin 28, MSU 21
Sears – No. 1 offense vs. the No. 1 defense. Normally I would take the ‘D' and the home team. But I'm going with my gut. Wisconsin is a national title contender, MSU not quite. Wilson scores a “passion bucket” win. Wisconsin 27, MSU 17
Beck - Wisconsin stays pretty much dominant. Wisconsin 32, MSU 20
