A Hawkeye, Iowa woman is in a La Crosse, Wis., hospital this morning with life-threatening injuries after her husband allegedly shot her with a 12-gauge load of buckshot, according to the Fayette County Sheriff's Office.
Gloria Becker called the Sheriff's Office about 11:15 Monday night to report that her husband, Kenny Becker Sr., 61, had shot her.
Deputies found Gloria Becker, 54, sitting in her vehicle at the intersection of Rose Road and 220th Street just north of Hawkeye with a shotgun wound to her back and arm.
The Sheriff's Office said its investigation revealed that Becker had allegedly shot her when she attempted to leave their 220th Street residence.
Becker then barricaded himself in his home when deputies arrived, the Sheriff's Office said.
After a six-hour standoff, the Sheriff's Office and the Iowa State Patrol Tactical Team entered the home and took Becker into custody without incident.
Gloria Becker was transported to Palmer Hospital in West Union and then transferred to Gunderson Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse for injuries described as life threatening.
As of this morning, no further update on her condition was available.
Kenny Becker was taken to the Fayette County Jail and charged with attempted murder, a Class B felony.
The Sheriff's Office then searched Becker's home and recovered more than 50 firearms and ammunition.
