The State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating a fire that destroyed the Fredericksburg home of Terry Schott early Wednesday morning.
The home had been largely unoccupied since early this year, Fredericksburg Fire Chief Ray Armbrecht said.
Its owner, Terry Schott, 50, was sentenced in January to serve 10 years in prison following conviction on a felony charge of third-degree sexual abuse involving a juvenile girl, according to court records.
The 110-year-old wood frame house was destroyed along with an attached garage, Armbrecht said.
Firefighter efforts were hampered by the discovery in the house of cans of gunpowder, which did not ignite, Armbrecht said.
