Three masked men, including one who had a handgun, broke inside a house in northeast Cedar Rapids late Sunday, police said.
Officers responded around 11:15 p.m. to 320 Brentwood Dr. NE when the home invasion was reported. Ricky L. Hard II, 29, said three men wearing bandannas kicked in the basement door and punched him several times, according to a police report.
Hard declined medical attention, police said. He told officers the three men jumped into a vehicle and took off after the assault. Nothing was reported stolen.
The three suspects were described as two white men and one black man. All three were wearing dark clothing. Hard told police he did not recognize any of the suspects. No gunshots were fired, police said.
Hard, who has been convicted of theft, burglary and forgery according to online court records, was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia at the scene when officers found drug pipes in the residence. He was allowed to sign a promise to appear in court.
Police said Hard was staying in the basement, and other people were upstairs at the time of the incident. An investigation was continuing.
