Guaranty Bank names Robert Becker chairman

CEDAR RAPIDS - Robert Becker has been named chairman of Guaranty Bank & Trust in Cedar Rapids, succeeding his father, Harold, who died May 28.

Becker served as president of Guaranty Bank from 1999 to 2010 and has been a member of the bank's board of directors since 1987. In addition to his leadership role at the bank, Becker also is the owner and president of In Tolerance, a Cedar Rapids precision contract manufacturing company.

Becker is a graduate of Syracuse University and the Graduate School of Banking in Madison, Wis. He is a board member or past board member of the YMCA, Temple Judah, Cedar Rapids Schools Trade & Industry, Four Oaks' Foundation Building Fund Campaign, Bank CEO Network, Tanager Place, The Shazam Network, Cedar Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce, Renaissance Group, Young Presidents Organization and Diversity Focus.

Becker's grandfather, Orrie Becker, was a founding shareholder when Guaranty Bank was formed in 1934 by Van Vechten Shaffer. Harold Becker purchased control of the bank from Shaffer in 1969.
