Green Gazette debuts: Online access to printed Gazette

Updated on Feb. 22, 2010
The Gazette launches on Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2010, a paid e-edition of the newspaper, The Green Gazette. This won't replace GazetteOnline.com, which continues to be a free site. It is a separate site and product for just our e-edition.
A little earlier it appeared as though The Green Gazette would be ready to launch today, Feb. 22. Around 1 p.m., however, word came that it will launch on the 23rd.
I'll write about this in my Sunday, Feb. 28, newspaper column. Until then, here is an e-mail sent internally at The Gazette:
-----
We are very pleased to announce the launch of The Green Gazette, the latest version of the e-edition. The product has been redesigned and will be launched to the public on February 23rd. The Green Gazette will replace the e-edition, and will be available for free or for a reduced rate to current print subscribers.
Non-subscribers will receive a 30-day free trial for answering a few short questions, and then will be billed at the low monthly rate of $4.95 for access to the Green Gazette, or $15.40 for weekend (print delivery) plus access to The Green Gazette.
Please note: This will not replace GazetteOnline, the free online version of our news. GazetteOnline will remain free. The Green Gazette is the exact digital replica of the printed newspaper delivered to your computer.
Internal Research conducted indicated that two-thirds of current e-edition readers do not get the print edition. Among the group of unique visitors who do not get the print edition, 20% are willing to pay a monthly fee for the Green Gazette. The top two reasons for currently reading the e-edition are convenience and the environment. Many other newspapers in other markets have already successfully established a paid subscription model.
New features include:
- An optional add-on subscription to USA Today
- Down-load to e-readers
- Email delivery
- Email notification of articles of interest
- Pod-cast delivery
