City Carton and Goodwill of the Heartland are working together to offer a new recycling option for Corridor residents by providing new weather-proof collection containers for clothing and shoes.
The two blue collection containers have been labeled with Goodwill's logo and installed at City Carton's drop off sites at 901 Ingleside Dr. SW in Cedar Rapids and 3 E. Benton St. in Iowa City. The drop sites are open 24 hours a day, and no advance call or fee is required.
The containers are expected to be a permanent addition to both locations. There will be no donation receipts for any clothing items donated at the sites.
All sizes and styles of clothing will be accepted, but no belts or accessories. Shoes are expected to be clean when donated.
"City Carton Recycling is excited to partner with Goodwill on the collection of clothing and shoes," said Ali Hayford, vice president of sales and marketing at City Carton Recycling. "As always, our goal is to reduce contributions to landfills by offering residents recycling options for items that can be recycled."
Goodwill removed donation containers from various locations in the Corridor when it was spending thousands of dollars annually on landfill fees to dispose of unusable items such as broken furniture.
