Gazette photographers pick their favorite sports photos of February 2019

Mar. 7, 2019 10:00 am
As sports madness goes, few months can compete well with March (I would argue the alliteration gives it an unfair advantage here).
February, however, is plenty crazy, as athletes in multiple sports at multiple levels of play clash in key games, playoff showdowns, and championship heartstoppers. Here are some of our favorite photos from another crazy busy February.

Callahan placed second with a time of 4:43.82. Swimming is on of the most challenging sports to photograph, the athletes faces are rarely visible and often obscured by splashing water. It is even harder to get multiple swimmers in on frame because they are spaced so far apart and even if you do have the right angle capturing both faces is pretty rare. I was pleased with this shot because it is one of those rare swimming images where you can see the swimmers competeing against each other rather than the usual isolated shot of an individual swimmer.
