ELKADER - One way to celebrate Turkey River for many Elkader residents, was to float down it.
The roughly three hour journey from Elkader to Motor Mill began at noon on Saturday, August 11, 2012. Dozens showed up with a variety of canoes and kayaks, armed with coolers and paddles ready to make their way down the Turkey River.
The scenic ride ended at Motor Mill, a once flour mill, with an interpretative tour. Afterwards, a locally produced meal was provided with entertainment. Some chose to camp out under the stars to catch the Perseid Meteor Showers, while others packed up and returned home.
