Airport officials canceled “a few” flights out of Eastern Iowa Airport and rerouted others after they discovered a possible fuel contamination in the tanks at the airport.
Eastern Iowa Airport spokeswoman Pam Hinman said that officials won't know for sure if there was a fuel contamination until after tests can be run tomorrow and that officials canceled some flights as a precaution.
Hinman also said that those flights coming into Cedar Rapids tonight will be coming with full tanks and will be able to take off in the morning without refueling in Cedar Rapids.
Hinman said that the airport does have contingency plans in place for such an incident, even one as “rare” as this. Hinman said the airport might resort to transporting fuel from the airport in Des Moines if necessary.
