IOWA CITY - An Illinois women's apparel chain will open a second Iowa City store next month in Old Capitol Town Center.
Geneseo, Ill.-based Four Seasons expects to open a 5,000-square-foot store on May 2 in space formerly occupied by Express, a women's apparel store that closed in late January.
Katie Andrios, president of GWK Enterprises, the owner of Four Seasons, said the Old Capitol store will have three full-time employees and 10 or 15 part-time associates.
“We're looking for an opportunity to update our stores and try a different size,” Andrios said. “This store will have 5,000 square feet, whereas most of our stores are 10,000 square feet. It will be a younger demographic for us, so we're excited to test some new fashions that are younger junior tops and denims.
“We love the traffic in that mall. There are so many people moving through it each day.”
Andrios said Four Seasons will continue to operate a store in Sycamore Mall.
“That's a great store for us, actually the No. 2 store in our family of six locations,” she said. “We are absolutely staying in Sycamore Mall and have no plans to leave. We really love that mall.”
Andrios' father, George Kutsunis, launched Four Seasons in 1962 with a single store in Geneseo, a town of about 6,400 just east of the Quad Cities. The chain has grown to six stores in Illinois and Iowa, including stores in Cedar Rapids and Iowa City.
GWK Enterprises also operates Pegasus, a gift shop in downtown Geneseo.
