UPDATE: Four people were injured Tuesday evening after two vehicles flipped on Highway 1 near Solon.
The Iowa State Patrol said that four victims, including two young girls, were sent to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics after a Buick Rendezvous collided with a Winnebago RV towing a Ford van, which both tipped over.
The RV's driver lost control while traveling southbound, causing it tip, the State Patrol said. The Buick's driver tried to swerve around the RV but collided, rolling the vehicle into a ditch.
The State Patrol identified the RV's driver as 63-year-old Christopher Ewer, of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Ewer was cited for failure to maintain control and was among those injured in the crash.
Karla Kruse, 40, of New Vienna was injured in the Buick, along with her passengers, 12-year-old Laura Kruse and Molly Kruse, 7, according to the State Patrol.
Authorities have not commented on the extent of the injuries. A Life Flight helicopter flew from the scene around 7 p.m.
Highway 1 was closed near Seven Sisters Rd. from about 6 p.m. until 9:30 p.m., while the RV and van lay across the roadway.
