MOUNT VERNON - Cornell College announced Wednesday the appointment of Dave Schlabaugh as assistant men's basketball coach.
Schlabaugh is best known as former longtime head coach at Williamsburg High School, where he was 106-60 in seven years. He guided the Raiders to a fourth-place finish at the Class 3A state tournament in 2015 before stepping down.
'Dave emerged from a long list of qualified candidates because of his vast recruiting connections, not only in the state of Iowa but in other areas of the country where we tend to look for quality student-athletes,” said Cornell head coach Chad Murray in a release. 'Throughout his career, Dave has worked with some of the finest coaches in the business. His experience and enthusiasm for teaching the game will be a huge benefit to our current players and myself as we look to turn the corner and compete for a Midwest Conference championship.”
Schlabaugh works for USA Basketball as a lead coach for youth skills camps and has been a lead instructor for Snow Valley Basketball School since 1999. The Kalona native spent the 2015-16 season as assistant coach at Clear Creek-Amana.
