A Mexican citizen who unlawfully re-entered the U.S. after being deported in 2010 for convictions of child endangerment and domestic abuse assault with a dangerous weapon in Tama County, was sentenced Tuesday to over four years in federal prison.
Luciano Garcia-Corona, 37, formerly of Tama, pleaded guilty in November 2014 to one count of unlawful re-entry following deportation as an aggravated felon and one count of unlawful possession of identity documents.
Garcia-Corona was deported Dec. 28, 2011, following his 2010 convictions in Tama County. He was previously deported on Dec. 15, 1999, according to court documents. Following each of his prior deportations, Garcia-Corona unlawfully returned to Iowa and committed violent crimes.
In April 2014, Garcia-Corona was convicted and sentenced in Tama County District Court for third-degree arson, domestic abuse assault, three counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, child endangerment and identity theft.
During the sentencing, U.S. District Chief Judge Linda Reade noted Garcia-Corona's violent criminal history, use of numerous aliases and his history of immigration violations.
Reade also ordered Garcia-Corona to serve a three-year term of supervised release after his prison time.
