A former MFL Mar Mac High School teacher is expected to plead guilty next week to supplying alcohol to minors and carrying firearms on school grounds.
Richard Nance, 58, of Cresco, was charged in May with supplying alcohol to underaged persons and two counts of carrying or transporting firearms on school grounds.
Clayton County Attorney Kevin Clefisch said Thursday Nance plans to plead guilty to the felony charges at 10 a.m. Oct. 22 in Clayton County Associate District Court.
Nance was arrested after a joint investigation by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, Clayton County Sheriff's Office and Monona Police Department.
According to a criminal complaint, Nance agreed to meet an underage girl in May at the Davis Street Car Wash in Monona and give her a mixed drink.
Police worked with the student to meet with Nance at the car wash, according to a police report.
Officers also found a loaded gun locked in the truck of Nance's car at the same time, according to a police report.
Nance resigned after being told he would be fired, MFL Mar Mac Superintendent Dale Crozier said when Nance was charged.
The district filed a complaint June 3 with the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners, and Nance surrendered his teaching license on Sept. 16, according to a board order. The board accepted his waiver at a formal hearing Oct. 1.
Nance's license is permanently revoked in Iowa with no possibility of reinstatement, according to order.
Nance's teaching duties included men's chorus, women's chorus, mixed chorus and Young Americans, the high school's show choir. He also taught at the district's middle school.
