CEDAR RAPIDS -- Load up your sleigh and head Saturday evening to downtown Cedar Rapids for the annual lighting ceremony of the city’s Christmas tree.
This year, the family of Kyle Gingrich of Marion donated a 25- to 30-foot-tall spruce that was getting too big for their yard. Crews have been setting up the tree and lights in Greene Square, 400 Fourth Ave. SE.
The festivities -- which are free to attend -- are 4:30 to 6 p.m. Saturday at the park. They begin with family activities, and food trucks will offer refreshments for sale. Mayor Tiffany O’Donnell will make remarks and then the tree will be lighted at 5:30 p.m.
