Fire in garage drives two from Cedar Rapids home
A garage fire drove two people from their home on Wednesday night.
Melissa Collins said she was out walking her dog just before 10 p.m. Wednesday when she noticed an orange glow and billowing smoke coming from the left side of Larry and Mary Cowles' garage at 1106 Regent St. NE. She quickly quickly called 911, and alerted the couple. No one was hurt
The fire caused deep charring of the front and left corner of the garage into the rafters, according to the Cedar Rapids Fire Department. It was likely caused by an electrical malfunction, officials said.
