Fire engulfs home in Independence

INDEPENDENCE, Iowa - A two-story house was engulfed by fire on the southwest side of Independence Thursday afternoon.

Fire crews from Independence and the surrounding area responded to a fire at 214 Third Ave. SW at approximately 2:30 p.m.

Fire officials say no one was home at the time of the fire, but the house is a complete loss.

After battling the wind and flames for hours, firefighters demolished the house around 5:00 p.m. to make sure the fire was completely out. All that remains is a pile of debris.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
