Fire destroys Marion mobile home

MARION - A Marion mobile home was destroyed in a fire Sunday afternoon.

According to Marion Fire Department officials, fire crews were dispatched to 400 Lindale Dr., Lot 94, at 2:31 p.m. and found heavy smoke and flames coming from the back of the home.

The fire was brought under control within 20 minutes, according to fire officials. The home's occupants had evacuated before firefighters arrived, and no injuries were reported, officials said.

The fire appears to have originated inside the rear portion of the home. The cause was due to an extension cord being used with a power strip, which overheated due to excessive power demand from multiple charging devices, including lithium batteries, officials said.

The Red Cross is providing assistance to the family, officials said.
