Firefighters from three area departments helped extinguish a blaze at an acreage near Shellsburg last night.
Crews responded at 7:48 p.m. to 3186 62nd St. when the residents noticed their storage shed was on fire. Shellsburg Fire Chief Scott McNeal said the building was fully engulfed in flames when the first crews arrived, but they were able to knock it down quickly.
McNeal said the building was likely a total loss, but some of the contents were salvagable. Yard equipment, including at least one lawn mower, was destroyed, he said. No one was injured.
An investigation is under way to determine a cause, but it is not supicious in nature, McNeal said.
Firefighters from Urbana and Hiawatha assisted the Shellsburg firefighters at the scene, with temperatures hovering around zero.
“All of our equipment was working well,” McNeal said.
