Fire damages restaurant in northeast Cedar Rapids

CEDAR RAPIDS - An early morning fire damaged a restaurant on Cedar Rapids' northeast side. Firefighters were called to the Spring House Restaurant, 3980 Center Point Road NE, just after 12:30 Saturday morning.

Firefighters reported smoke coming from the back of the building when they arrived on the scene. Once they entered the one-story building, they discovered a dryer was on fire inside of a utility room. They were able to quickly extinguish the electrical fire which was contained to the appliance.

Officials say that there was some damage done to a wall located near the appliance. The kitchen sustained light smoke damage.

An employee of the restaurant says that the business was able to operate as normal when the it opened at 8:30 Saturday morning.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
