Aurora: 9 a.m. May 31, Services at Union Church and Cemetery; 10 a.m. Aurora American Legion and Auxiliary. Address delivered by Gay Bowden. Lunch following in the Legion Hall.
Brandon: 9 a.m. May 31, Military Services, cemetery, Speaker Roger Uthoff; 7:30 to 11 a.m. Breakfast, Bear Creek Church. $6.
Cedar Rapids/Marion: May 31, The Optimist Club of Cedar Rapids will be installing more than 300 American flags throughout the area, including Grande and Bever Avenues SE, Brockman Avenue in Marion, Stoney Creek Road and Rock Valley Road NW and Timberline, Wyndham and Cedar Ridge Drives NE.
Cedar Rapids: 10 a.m. May 31. All Veterans Memorial Park. Guest speaker: Cheryl King.
Cedar Rapids: 11 a.m. May 31, Non-denominational Memorial Day Service, Campbell Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road. Speaker: Lt. Col. Donald Tyne (Ret).
Cedar Rapids: May 30 to 31, Avenue of Flags, Cedar Memorial, 4200 First Ave. NE. More than 1,500 American flags will line the avenues.
Cedar Rapids: 11 a.m. May 31, Memorial Day tribute, Cedar Memorial, 4200 First Ave. NE. Patriotic music, rifle salute, taps presentation and a dove release. Master of Ceremonies: C. John Linge. Guest speaker: Ralph Osenbaugh.
Cedar Rapids: 11:30 a.m. May 31, Memorial Day Ceremony, Czech National Cemetery, 2200 C St. SW, inside the main entrance at the Veterans Memorial. Guest speaker: Dale Todd. In case of rain, the ceremony will be held in the St. Wenceslaus Gym Building, 1230 Fifth St. SE.
Central City: 10 a.m. May 31, Parade, beginning at high school; 10:30 a.m. Memorial services, Wapsipinicon River bridge; 11 a.m. Mount Clark Cemetery. Sponsored by Wapsie Post 421 American Legion.
Coralville: 1:30 p.m. May 31, Memorial Day Ceremony, East Overlook Picnic Area, east side of the dam and Coralville Lake. The Corps of Engineers will honor seven local military veterans: Michael R. Acton, Alan W. Gerard, Paul F. Hain Jr., Delbert L. Hesseltine, Keith M. Potter, Stephen A. Roskop and Alvin G. Schnoebelen.
Davenport: 11:30 a.m. May 31, Memorial ceremony, Rock Island Confederate Prisoner of War Cemetery on Arsenal Island in the Mississippi River near Davenport and Moline. Almost 2,000 Confederate soldiers' graves will be decorated with a battle flag for the length of the ceremony.
Deep River: 9 a.m. May 31, Assemble at Morrison Schrader Post 296; 9:30 a.m. Dresden Cemetery; 10 a.m. Guernsey Cemetery; 11 a.m. Deep River. Morrison Schrader Post 296.
Delhi: 4 p.m. May 30, Decoration Day program, Bay Church and Cemetery. Highway D42. Open house following re-enactment.
Fairfax: 10:30 a.m. May 31, Memorial Service, Fairfax Legion Hall, 216 Main St. Guest speaker will be Maj. Gen. (Ret.) Robert Sentman. Following the service, lunch will be served by the Auxiliary.
Garnavillo: 11 a.m. May 31, Memorial Day Service, Garnavillo School Gym.
Harpers Ferry: 10 a.m. May 31, parade, all day Memorial Day celebration, National Guard jet fighter flyover and a pork chop dinner.
Holbrook and Parnell: 10 a.m. May 31, Memorial Day Service, St. Joseph Cemetery, Parnell; 10:30 a.m. St. Michael Cemetery, Holbrook; 11 a.m. Memorial Day Mass, St. Michael's Holbrook; lunch following Mass at St. Michael Hall.
Independence: 10:15 a.m. May 30, Memorial Day observance service, First Baptist Church, 301 Second St. SE. The service will pay tribute to those who served in the Vietnam War. Vietnam veterans are encouraged to come. Guest speaker: Col. Charles Larson.
Keystone: 10 a.m. May 31, Memorial Day Parade, Main Street, services follow at the Keystone Cemetery and Holy Cross Cemetery. Guest speaker: Tim Kapucian. In case of rain, services will be held at the Merkel-Bockholt Legion Post.
Marion: 10:45 a.m. May 31, Memorial Day Ceremony, Oak Shade Cemetery; 11:30 a.m. a 21-gun rifle salute followed by the reading of names of American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary members who have died in the past year. Noon, community potluck lunch. Marion American Legion Post No. 298, 625 31st St. Speaker: Mark Eades, veteran of the gulf war.
Mount Vernon: 9 a.m. May 31, Parade, led by Hahn-Howard Post 480 starting from City Hall and ending at the Mount Vernon Cemetery for a commemorative ceremony.
Oxford: 10 a.m. May 31, Memorial Day Ceremony, Oxford American Legion, 126 E. Main St., lunch following.
Ryan: 8:45 a.m. May 31, Ryan Calvary Cemetery; 9:10 a.m. Lutheran Cemetery; 9:25 a.m. Golden Church Cemetery; 9:50 a.m. Silver Creek Cemetery; 10:10 a.m. Monti Bridge; 10:25 a.m. Monti Cemetery; 10:55 a.m., Masonville Cemetery; and 11:30 a.m. Ryan Memorial. Steak fry following ceremonies from noon to 1:30 p.m.
Solon: 9 a.m. May 31, St. Bridget's Memorial Day Mass and Open House, 2136 St. Bridget's Rd. NE. Father Jeff Belger will celebrate a Memorial Day Mass at St Bridget's cemetery at the Nolan Settlement. Bring a lawn chair. An open house will be held from 8 to 11:30 a.m.
Strawberry Point: 10 a.m. May 31, Memorial Day service, Cass Township Cemetery. State Rep. Roger Thomas will give the address. The Starmont High School band will perform. Lunch will be served at the Legion Hall between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Troy Mills: 10 a.m. May 31, Memorial Day Service, Hoover Church Cemetery. 11 a.m. Parade with services at the Troy Mills Cemetery to follow.
Vining: 11 a.m. May 31, Memorial Day Services, National Cemetery, lunch following at Vining C.S.A. Hall.
Walker: May 29 to 31, The Avenue of Flags will be displayed at the Walker Public Cemetery and Sacred Heart Cemetery. 8:30 a.m. Parade will leave for Walker Public Cemetery, 8:45 a.m. Walker Public Cemetery service, 9:30 a.m. service at Sacred Heart Cemetery. In case of rain, services will be held in the North Linn Walker Center on Ely Street at 9 a.m. Omelet brunch at Legion Hall from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Waukon: 10 a.m. May 31, Memorial Day Parade, starts in front of the Courthouse. 10:30 a.m. Memorial Day Observance, Oakland Cemetery, south side of Waukon, Highway 9 entrance. Guest speaker: Dr. Bill N. Withers of Wartburg College. There will be an F-16 fighter flyover, mountain howitzer cannon salute and the high school band will perform.
Winthrop: 9:30 a.m. May 31, Memorial Day Services, Fairview Cemetery, followed by a service at St. Pat's Cemetery. In case of rain, joint services will be held at 10 a.m. in the East Buchanan School Gym.
West Branch: 1 to 4 p.m. May 31, Living history interpreters at the Herbert Hoover National Historic Site and the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library-Museum. 1:30 p.m. Civil War Remembrance Day discussion and concert of Civil War music. From 2:15 to 3 p.m., Civil War re-enactors from the 24th Iowa Infantry will display equipment and discuss camp life and combat during the war.
