Iowa City, Iowa -- The Hawkeye football team fell to Michigan State on Saturday, 26-14.
For a span of about five minutes at the end of the first half, Iowa showed signs of life. After falling into an early 10-0 hole and gaining only 21 yards after more than 20 minutes of play, Iowa's offense woke up. Quarterback Jake Rudock hit Damon Bullock on a checkdown, and Bullock sprinted 47 yards to the end zone.
A few minutes later, Rudock capped another drive with a 10-yard strike to tight end C.J. Fiedorowicz to give Iowa a halftime lead.
But outside of those two possessions, Iowa's offense couldn't move the ball. Iowa ran for just 23 yards -- fewer than Michigan State punter Mike Sadler gained on one back-breaking fake punt run.
The fake punt led to a field goal that put Michigan State up 23-14. Some stout defense and another field goal finished things off for the Spartans, dropping Iowa to 4-2, 1-1 in Big Ten play.
