Final: Iowa 17, Northwestern 10 (OT)

IOWA CITY -- A 7-yard touchdown catch by C.J. Fiedorowicz, followed by a fierce defensive stand, gave the Iowa football team a 17-10 overtime victory over Northwestern on Saturday.

Rudock hit Fiedorowicz on a fade route on third down in the first overtime to give Iowa a lead. Then Drew Ott came up with a sack, cornerback Desmond King broke up a pass, and Iowa stuffed quarterback Kain Colter on fourth down to hang on to the win.

The Hawkeyes opened the game with a 14-play, 74-yard drive almost entirely on the ground, ending with a 3-yard Damon Bullock touchdown run. Iowa controlled the first half, but only led 10-0 at the break.

Then the second half unfolded in familiar fashion. Iowa's offense stalled out, punting on its first two possessions and missing a field goal on its third, while Northwestern found its footing. The Wildcats went on an 81-yard touchdown drive and then a massive 16-play, 8:38 drive for a game-tying field goal.

The Wildcats were racing down the field in the final four minutes of the game for a winning score, when a bad pitch on an option, recovered by freshman cornerback Desmond King, gave Iowa the ball back.

The Hawkeyes could hardly advance the ball from there, though, and found themselves facing a choice between 4th-and-11 or a 52-yard field goal with 15 seconds left. Iowa chose to go for the first down, but Jake Rudock's pass was intercepted, sending the game to overtime.
