Fight at wedding reception in Mount Vernon lands two in jail

MOUNT VERNON – A large fight during a wedding reception at a country club in Mount Vernon has ended with at least two people going to jail.
Mount Vernon police were called to Hillcrest Country Club at 9:51 p.m. Saturday for a report of a large fight in progress.
Soon after officers arrived the fight broke up. Police arrested Justin D. Parrish, 32, of Burlington for disorderly conduct and public intoxication. Travis A. Merta, 26, of Cedar Rapids was arrested for interference with official acts and public intoxication.
Parrish was transported to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries and later released.
Both men ended up at the Linn County Jail.
Mount Vernon police said the charges are pending as the incident is still under investigation.
Lisbon police, deputies from Linn and Cedar counties and troopers from the Iowa State Patrol assisted at the scene.
