Major League Baseball Commissioner Robert D. Manfred Jr. will make his first-ever visit this afternoon to the iconic Field of Dreams movie site in Dyersville to announce locations around the country that the Baseball Hall of Fame Tour will visit starting this summer.
Hall of Fame pitcher John Smoltz and a number of Iowa elected officials, including Gov. Terry Branstad and Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds, are scheduled to join him for the event, which begins at 3 p.m.
The Baseball Hall of Fame Tour will kick off in July as it visits dozens of U.S. cities. The commissioner will announce the schedule as well as provide details on the historic exhibits and artifacts from the museum in Cooperstown, N.Y, that will be featured on the tour.
Manfred and Smoltz are expected to participate in a question-and-answer session with fans who attend the event. The World Series trophy also will be on display.
The event is scheduled for 3 p.m. at the Field of Dreams movie site, 28995 Lansing Road, Dyersville.
