CEDAR RAPIDS - A federal judge Tuesday sentenced three Dubuque men on firearms counts - and two of them also over an attempt to influence a grand jury witness - for an incident last December when shots were fired into a home.
Camron A. Pete Jr., 24, pleaded guilty in April to possessing a firearm while being a drug user. He was sentenced to the maximum 10 years in prison.
During sentencing, Pete admitted he fired at an occupied residence in Dubuque in December 2015. He also admitted to obstructing justice by attempting to tamper with a grand jury witness.
U.S. District Chief Judge Linda Reade said Pete fired the shots, which penetrated the house, with a high-capacity magazine weapon.
Reginald D. Shaw Jr., 25, also pleaded guilty in April to possessing a firearm while being a drug user, following a misdemeanor conviction for domestic violence. He was sentenced to nearly four years in prison.
During sentencing, Shaw admitted he came to Dubuque from Wisconsin to protect Pete and went with him to the home with a loaded gun.
Landon Nathanson-Love, 24, pleaded guilty in April to possessing a firearm while being a drug user. He was sentenced to nearly five years in prison.
During sentencing, Nathanson-Love admitted to selling Pete and Shaw the firearms that were used in the shooting. Nathanson-Love had purchased the firearms with a fraudulently procured gun permit.
Reade said Nathanson-Love obstructed justice by working with a family member to delete a social media account and tampering with a grand jury witness. She commended the courage of witnesses despite the attempts.
All three defendants also were ordered to serve a three-year term of supervised release following their terms.
