CEDAR RAPIDS — Kicking off the first of eight events this year, the Cedar Rapids Downtown Farmers Market returns Saturday morning to offer everything from baked goods to wines from some 200 vendors.
About 12,000 people attend each event, according to the Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance, and several blocks of downtown are cordoned off so consumers can wonder on the streets from one vendor to the next. Besides farm goods for sale, merchants offer a wide variety of other items from art to coffee to jewelry to T-shirts. A list of vendors and a map are at cedarrapids.org.
Organizers encourage shoppers to keep pets at home. But if you bring one, it must be on a leash of 3 feet or less and must stay away from food and displays. Smoking is prohibited at the market. And the market will go on even if there is rain — although none is forecast for this Saturday morning.
The farmers market runs from 7:30 a.m. to noon on these Saturdays:
