Family pet escapes minor Iowa City house fire

IOWA CITY – A small fire in the roof area of an Iowa City home caused some damage at 1511 Spruce Street while no one but a family pet was home around 4:30 p.m. Friday.
Fire crews were able to quickly extinguish the fire and find the family's dog unharmed. The spread of the fire was contained ot the roof area and an exterior wall, Iowa City fire officials say.
The cause of the fire was accidental, fire officials say, but the exact cause is not know. Firefighters were at the scene for about an hour.
