PALO - A traveling exhibit that honors 82 Iowans killed in the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq returned to the Corridor on Saturday.
Patriot Guard riders stood outside bearing flags as the wall of photos was unveiled at the Palo Community Center.
“Unfortunately war happens and we can't forget those who paid the ultimate price,” said Patriot Guard Ride Captain Scott Rathjens. “I want to bring attention to everybody that's on the wall.”
Don Gilbertson, whose 24-year-old son Sgt. Kevin Gilbertson died in Iraq in 2007, was among those visiting the display.
“It was quite an emotional deal,” he said.
The photos show the fallen troops in uniform, as well as images of them enjoying civilian life.
“All the pictures...It took my breath away and brought a tear to my eye,” Rathjens said.
The exhibit, which visited Cedar Rapids last year, will remain at the Palo Community Center until Wednesday.
