IOWA CITY - Several emergency responders responded to the scene of a gas leak at the intersection of East Market Street and North Linn Street Thursday evening.
Iowa City Police Lt. Denise Brotherton said police had received the call of a construction company hitting a gas line at the 200 block of North Linn Street. The Iowa City Fire Department has since evacuated those in the affected area and has cordoned off the leak space.
The leak's location is close to several Iowa City businesses, including Hamburg Inn No. 2 and Oasis.
Brotherton said as long as people stay outside of the cordoned area there should be no further danger to the public. She said the fire department is the agency handling the scene. More information will be added as it becomes available.
