A concrete cleaning agent seeped into Indian Creek and turned the water green early Wednesday night.
Fire officials are saying that the agent was a “benign chemical” and that the creek was not adversely affected.
After a brief investigation, fire officials said that the concrete cleaning agent that had made its way into the water through the storm sewer from the car wash at the Short Stop gas station at 340 Marion Blvd.
The chemical spilled into a confined part of the creek and fire officials said the hazardous materials crews were able to quickly pump the chemical out of the waterway and that there was no risk of contamination.
Firefighters emphasized the incident was no cause for concern, and that a similar incident had occurred a year ago at this site.
