CEDAR RAPIDS — Traffic pattern changes are coming to sections of busy Edgewood Road over the Cedar River and to a new Ellis Boulevard NW roundabout.
Both traffic changes start Tuesday morning.
Edgewood Road
Crews began to work in March on a project between Ellis Road NW and Glass Road NE to modify the Edgewood Road bridge over the Cedar River — accommodating an 8-foot-wide trail with about another 400 feet of additional trail extending north of the bridge; making bridge repairs; and replacing a water main that has been offline since 2017.
While the first phase of the work was underway, all traffic shifted to the bridge’s west lanes. Starting Tuesday, that changes — now all traffic will shift to the east lanes as construction on the west lanes begins. The work is expected to end in late December, the city says.
Ellis Boulevard
Also starting Tuesday, the eastbound and northbound legs of the roundabout at Ellis Boulevard and F Avenue NW will be closed to traffic for curb repair. The roundabout on Ellis Boulevard one block south of there, at E Avenue NW, will not be affected.
Work is expected to take up to a week, the city says. Detours using E Avenue NW will be posted.
