Travelers using The Eastern Iowa Airport are experiencing some delays due to the “ripple effect” of the snowstorm that brought high winds - in some cases as much as 80 miles per hour - and blinding snow to much of the East Coast beginning Sunday.
With the New York airports closed, flights that were to originate there have been canceled or delayed. An early morning flight arriving from Chicago on American Eagle Airlines was canceled and another was delayed. A United Airlines flight to Denver that was scheduled to depart at 9:12 a.m. was canceled and other flights have been delayed.
Pam Hinman, director of marketing at The Eastern Iowa Airport, said more delays and cancellations can be expected until the East Coast airports return to normal operations. “It's all a matter of connections,” Hinman said. “We recommend that passengers contact the airlines to find out the latest information about their flight.”
Incoming and departing flights were suspended at New York's John F. Kennedy and LaGuardia airports Sunday night, as well as at Newark Liberty International Airport in northern New Jersey. The airports were initially expected to reopen at 3 p.m. Monday, but will remain closed until further notice, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
