March trials have been set for the mayor of Dunkerton and a relative who have been charged with misdemeanors for actions at a disputed traffic stop.
The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports Mayor Michael James Schares and his nephew, Thomas Lee Adamson, were cited for interference with official acts and harassment of a public official.
The charges stem from a traffic stop on Dec. 2, when Dunkerton officer Robert Roquet ticketed Teresa Adamson for speeding. She is Thomas Adamson's wife.
Roquet and his lawyer allege Schares intervened at the scene and later fired Roquet. The city attorney says Roquet was never fired. Schares has denied intervening.
Roquet is back on the job now.
Prosecutors have asked the court to combine the trials, which have been set for March 20.
